New York Vital Records - Birth Records

The State office maintains records since 1881. If you are searching for records prior to 1914 in Albany, Buffalo, and Yonkers, or before 1880 for other cities, you can write to the Registrar of Vital Statistics where the event took place.

For other parts of NY State (excluding NYC), you may be able to obtain the records from the State office.

 

New York Vital Records - Death Records

The NY State office maintains death records that have occurred since 1881. If you're searching for records prior to 1914 in Albany, Buffalo, and Yonkers, or prior to 1880 other cities or counties, you can obtain them from the Registrar of Vital Statistics in the city or county where event occurred. For other parts of NY State (excluding NYC), you can obtain these records from the State office.

Divorce records in New York include the names of those divorced, where it occurred and court case number. New York divorce records date back to January 1963.You can obtain a divorce record from the County Clerk where the divorce took place.
